المستخلص: The Egyptian society is living a serious crisis due to the spread of religious extremism. This extremism leads to big psychological and social problems. It has also its impact on people's mental health and it weakens the society, hindering the processes of production and development, recently, religious extremism divided the society not only on a religious basis but also politically. This is due to intellectual rigidity, one dimensional vision, and fanatic inclination. All this leads to discriminative behavior as well as political and religious stereotyping, This paper derives its importance from the importance of the phenomenon that it addresses, especially that this phenomenon expands every day, which is quite clear among academics and intellectuals as well as lay men, This problem worth studying and analysis and worth looking for means of confronting it. It has not become just a political or religious attitude but a complete rejection of the other, Content analysis is used in this paper to analyze writings of a sample of youth on Facebook and Twitter. The sample consisted of (218) youth aged (18-22). The analysis is both quantitative and qualitative, taking fanatic trends as a function of the level of mental health in accordance with theories and empirical evidence in the literature, Research questions are: A-Are fanaticism and rigidity of thinking reflected in this sample? B- Does this sample claim superiority towards those who have different way of thinking? C-Were fanatic attitudes associated with personality disorder in the sample?, Results have shown strong evidence of fanaticism and rigidity of thinking. This was associated with claimed superiority towards the other. Also shown was a strong evidence of personality disorder which was clearly reflected in frustration, violence, authoritarianism, and narcissism.
