This research aims at publishing a collection of coins from the city of Cyrene. The collection is kept in the Egyptian museum in Cairo under special register number 12. The whole group consists of seven golden pieces of tenth stater, that dates back to the end of Archaic till the beginning of the Hellenistic age. It should be noted that the collection is part of the coin pieces dedicated to the museum from the private collection of king Farouk. The types of the publishing collection present some coinage portraits which had been a topic of controversy among the scholars regarding their classification. This controversy is mainly focused on two main problematic issues: the first one deals with determing the character of a certain god which the scholars referred to as Apollo-Karneios, while Some others proposed different classifications. The second issue is about the trend of most scholars to classify many feminine portaits as the nymph Cyrene, inspite of the fact that the portraits have different features and hairstyles. Accordingly, the research seeks to explore and discuss different views, as well as proposing the possibility of a new classification aiming to get the more logic one. The descriptive, historical and comparitive methods are the research methods that will be adopted through this paper.
