|b This research tries to introduce 'Aqeel bin Ulafa', a poet who belongs to the Ummayad Era. Remarkably enough, our poet did not give in to the Ummayad mundane attractions, though some of his daughters had been related, in marriage, to some Ummayad high ranking officials, notably Yazid bin Abdul-Malek. Rather he chose to spend his life in the desert among his people, Bani Murrah. He left his lodging there for Madinah to cater for some urgent needs, whose execution would not consume a long time. His poetic output, not superfluous in quantity, is presented in short pieces. Bearing in mind the good artistic quality of his poetry, it is easy to speculate that some of his poetry has been lost. His major objectives are 'satire', 'elegy', 'pride' and 'wisdom'. However the majority is defamatory. It could be argued that his tough and arid life might have contributed to this choice. Satire was more reflective of his psychology. His satire was so squalid and callous. Though it denotes a well gifted talent, nonetheless it did isolate him from those around him, even his children did abandon him.
