Evaluation of Intestinal Parasitic Infections among Displaced Children to Erbil City

المستخلص: This study was performed from first of May to last of August 2015 to detect the prevalence rates of intestinal parasites and complete blood count of displaced patients who suffering from different intestinal parasites in Erbil city and camps. A study included 202 patients, where 114 male and 88 female. The age ranged from 2 to 13 years. Stool samples examinations included the scotch cellulose tape technique and direct smear method for investigation intestinal parasites in children. Blood sample was collected from basalic vein in the anticubital fossa. Examinations of blood picture were conducted, which included hematocrit, haemoglobin determination and total white blood cells count for 51 cases. This results show that the total infection rate with intestinal parasites was 34.8%. The results of this study recorded the prevalence rate of parasites as following Enterobius vermicularis (20.7 %), Entamoeba histolytica (9.1%), Giardia lamblia (3.0%), H. nana and T. hominis were reported in only two cases (1.0%), also the study reported Enterobius vermicularis and Giardia lamblia (1.0%). According to complete blood count examinations, there was significant change of each of total number of white blood cells and number of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, eosinophils and hematocrit to cases of parasitic infections in comparison with mean and standard normal values (P < 0.05). In addition, there was non significant decreasing haemoglobin (Hb) values to the patients' less than normal level of hemoglobin.
