المستخلص: Background: Osteoporosis is a chronic bone disease that affects many people, and it is considered the second leading cause of disability. It is a reduction in bone density and strength that makes patients prone to skeletal fracture, especially in the hip, wrist, and spine. Nurses represent the first line in the management of such chronic diseases through health education and promotion provided to patients about its evaluation and management at the early stages. To the best of our knowledge, there are no studies conducted in Jordan assessing the knowledge, attitude, and practices towards osteoporosis prior to this one. Purposes: The purpose of this study is to measure the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice towards osteoporosis among Jordanian nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional design was conducted in this study. A convenience sample of 443 Jordanian nurses was recruited from various health care settings in Jordan, including the public and private sectors. The assessment tool used in the current study contained 35 items, measuring knowledge, attitude, and practice among KAP ON OSTEOPOROSIS Jordanian nurses towards osteoporosis, Ccorrelation Pearson test and regression test were used to analyse data using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, (SPSS) version 21. Results: The total knowledge, attitude, and practice, (KAP) scores were 33.53, 37.65, 22.7, respectively. Overall, these results revealed that Jordanian nurses have demonstrated a moderate level of knowledge, attitude and practice towards osteoporosis. These is results also indicate a relation between training programs and knowledge. Furthermore, there also a relation between experience and attitude, while none was found between practice and sociodemographic variables. Conclusions: It is expected that hip fractures will increase four-fold by 2050 according to previous study. In this study Jordanian nurses showed moderate knowledge, attitude, and practices towards osteoporosis that should be improved as an effective step to reduce the growing incidences of osteoporosis. The lack of KAP holds a serious and growing impact on our health sector and patients’ health alike in terms of cost, health care resources and social life. Nurses can play a valuable roles in educating patients on bone fractures causes, perceived percentage, risks and prevention along with helping them with nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. This study will be the first step towards promoting bone health and preventing fractures among Jordanian nurses thus increasing their quality levels of KAPs from moderate to Excellent.
