|a شكلت الايلخانية دويلة أو إقليم تابع لدولة المغول والخان الأعظم في العاصمة بكين، فما كان باستطاعة خان المغول السيطرة على حكم إمبراطورية مترامية الأطراف خصوصا بعد أن مد نفوذها على ممتلكات الدولة العباسية ومحاولة للعبور إلى أوروبا مما أخذت تتبع سياسة الدول الإسلامية في الاعتماد على الدويلات التابعة لها والنائبة عنها في الأقاليم البعيدة لضمان الأمان من عدم خروج المتمردين أو المعارضين في تلك المناطق ضدها فضلا عن حماية حدودها من أي اعتداء خارجي عليها، فقد كانت هذه الدويلات بمثابة السور لحماية الدولة، كذلك مثلت الدولة الايلخانية الدرع المنيع لحماية الحدود البعيدة للإمبراطورية المغولية والسيطرة على ممتلكاتها في إيران والعراق وفرض الهيمنة على أراضي الدولة العباسية كما ظلت حاجزا ضد توسع دولة المماليك في مصر نحو الشرق.
