المستخلص: The agricultural land rent is a vital topic of the interest groups for political, economic, and social reasons. It is still a controversy issue for the Muslims and non Muslims societies. The contractual relationships in agricultural land is a crucial issue in all the economic systems over history. The Islamic legislations have prominent contributions in the agricultural land issues epically the land owner-tenant relationships. This paper is a comparative study of the land-tenant relationship in Islamic and contemporary economic literature. The research question is concerning with identifying the parity rent of the agricultural land from the Islamic scientists’ viewpoints, which fulfill the private and social interests. The paper aims at investigating the appropriate land rent contracting relationships that perform the economic and social objectives of the economy, in addition to attaining the sustainable agricultural development. The study includes also a case study of the agricultural land tenure in Egypt. The concluding remarks of the paper including a matrix of the land owner-tenant relationships for the main Islamic Doctrines. The case study of land tenures in Egypt between 1990 to 2010 reveals a decrease in the rented tenures and, thus the available land for renting, combining with a decrease in the land tenure size. The equity of the agricultural land distribution is decreasing also, which means an increase in the land ownership concentration. The main conclusion is that the modern contractual land relationships may benefit from the Islamic legislations in this field to improve the application of land contractual types to maximize the benefits of the land owners, tenants, and agricultural economy.
