المستخلص: استفتح الباحث بتعريف الحياء لغة واصطلاحا، ثم ذكر الألفاظ ذات الصلة بالحياء، ثم ذكر أهمية الحياء وفضائله وأنواعه وأقسامه ثم ذكر أصل تولده والأسباب المذهبة له. ثم قسم الآيات الكريمة الواردة في الحياء إلى: آيات نصت على خلق الحياء، وآيات دلت عليه بمعناها، وآيات كُني بها عما يستحيا منه أو يستقذر، وآيات مُدح أصحابها؛ لتخلقهم بالحياء ثم ذكر تشنيع القرآن الكريم على من لم يتخلق بالحياء. وقد خلص إلى عدة نتائج، من أهمها: إدراك أهمية خُلق الحياء من خلال القرآن الكريم، والأمر به والتوصية بلزومه، وبيان أنواعه وأقسامه، وأصل تولده، والأسباب المذهبة له، وأن الآيات التي ذكرته أو أشارت إليه يمكن تصنيفها تصنيفا موضوعيا، تركز كل آيات فيه على عرض موضوع الحياء بأسلوب يحببه إلى العباد بطرق متعددة، وفي تلك الآيات التحذير من الاستخفاف به، أو سلوك الأسباب التي تذهبه. وأوصت الدراسة بالاهتمام بالمزيد من الدراسات والأبحاث في بيان هذه الخلق العظيم، ودراسته في القرآن الكريم من جوانب أدبية وبلاغية، ومن خلال مواعظ القرآن الكريم وأمثاله، وقصصه وهداياته. خاصة تلك القصص التي أبرزت الحديث عن خلق الحياء بوضوح وجلاء مثل: (حياء آدم عليه السلام وزوجه، تأذي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من جلوس من يجلس في بيته بعد الطعام فيستحيي صلى الله عليه وسلم منهم مع أن ذلك يؤذيه، وحياؤه في إبدائه الرغبة بالزواج من زينب رضي الله عنها، وحياء يوسف عليه السلام في مراودة امرأة العزيز له، وحياء موسى عليه السلام من قومه وحياء البنتين من موسى، وحياء مريم من قومها حين جاءها المخاض، ومن القصص التي شنعت على من قل حياؤهم قصة قوم لوط عليه السلام) وغيرها من القصص القرآنية العظيمة التي تبين قيمة هذا الخلق النبيل.

The researcher begins with defining 'modesty', providing both a linguistic definition and a technical one. Then the researcher mentions the vocabulary related to modesty. After that, the importance, virtues, and the different kinds and categories of modesty are discussed. The researcher then considers the origin and the factors that might diminish it. Verses concerning modesty are then divided into: verses that directly refer to modesty, those that refer indirectly to modesty, those that involve euphemism to avoid certain disliked or disgusting terms and verses that praise people with having the virtue of modesty. Finally, verses that condemn those lacking the virtue of modesty. Some of the significant results that the study has come up are the following. We have to realize, the importance of the trait of modesty through the Holy Quran, and commend it to others command its followers. We should also learn the different types and categories of modesty, how it emerged and the factors that might diminish it. The verses dealing with modesty can be categorized objectively. The verses present the topic of modesty in a manner that attracts people in different ways, such as cautioning against underestimating modesty. The study recommends that more studies should address this great trait of modesty from a literary and rhetoric perspectives, and through the quranic preaching, sayings and stories; in particular, those stories that foreground the virtue of modesty. Such stories include stories that present modesty of Adam and Eve, the prophet's discomfort of those who sit at his house after they finish a meal, Prophet's shyness proposing to Zainab, modesty of Prophet Joseph when the wife of Alaziz tries to seduce him, modesty of Moses, shyness of the two towards Moses, shyness of Mary towards her people as she delivered Prophet Jesus and the stories that condemn people lacking modesty like the story of Prophet Lot with his people.
