إن لكل جريمة ظروفها وآثارها التي تختلف فيها عن الجرائم الأخرى ومع ذلك ليس من الممكن حصر الآثار المادية التي تتخلف في مسرح الجريمة وأن ما يهم من آثار تلك التي تتخلف عن الجاني أو المجني عليه ولاسيما الآثار الناتجة عن جسم الإنسان إذ يتميز كل فرد ببعض البصمات التي تميزه عن غيره بحيث يمكن الكشف عن شخصية الفرد من خلال هذه البصمات وتعرف بصمة الأصبع على أنها "تلك الخطوط الحلمية البارزة والتي تحاذيها انخفاضات تتخذ أشكالا مختلفة في جلد أصابع اليدين والكفين من الداخل". وأن هذه البصمات تترك طابعها على كل جسم تلمسه سواء كان ناعما أم خشنا في حين يتبين أهمية البصمة في مجال التحقيق الجنائي من خلال إثبات وجود الشخص في مكان معين ولاسيما إذا كان ذلك المكان هو المحل الذي تم ارتكاب السلوك الإجرامي فيه فعلى من وجدت بصماته في ذلك المحل أن يبين سبب تواجده في ذلك المكان، كما يمكن التعرف على هوية الجثة إذا كان المقتول مجهول الهوية من خلال فحص أصابعه والتوصل إلى شخصيته، في حين تساعد بصمات الأصابع في التعرف على الخصائص والصفات المميزة للمتهمين كمعرفة حالتهم الصحية وأعمارهم وجنسهم، ومن الجدير بالذكر أن لبصمات الأصابع خصائص فريدة من نوعها إذ أنها لا تنطبق البصمة لشخص مع شخص أخر نهائيا فعلى الرغم من العدد الهائل من سكان العالم والتي هي في زيادة مستمرة يوم بعد يوم ألا أن التجارب العلمية أثبتت في مجال البصمات أنه لا توجد بصمتين متطابقتين. These fingerprints leave their mark on every object they touch, whether it is smooth or rough, while the importance of fingerprints in the field of criminal investigation is evident by proving the presence of a person in a specific place, especially if that place is the place where the criminal behavior was committed. The person whose fingerprints were found in that place must explain the reason for his presence in that place. The identity of the body can also be identified if the murdered person is unidentified by examining his fingers and arriving at his identity, while fingerprints help in identifying the characteristics and distinctive qualities of the accused, such as knowing their health condition, age and gender. It is worth noting that fingerprints have unique characteristics, as the fingerprint of one person does not match another person at all. Despite the huge number of the world's population, which is constantly increasing day after day, scientific experiments have proven in the field of fingerprints that there are no two identical fingerprints.
