This study aims to clarify the reality of the dual food problem (the food gap and food security) in Algeria, in light of the agricultural policy followed since 2001. This period witnessed the adoption of many strategies in the agricultural sector within the framework of the implemented public investment programs. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, descriptive and analytical approaches were used. By describing and analyzing the agricultural policies followed and analyzing the reality of the food gap and food security and the challenges of achieving it in Algeria. This study concluded the failure of the various policies followed on the agricultural side and their inability to reduce the food gap and achieve food security for the Algerian individual, as this goal is still dependent on the availability of revenues from oil exports necessary to finance food imports.
