المستخلص: 0. This study examines the lexical sense relations apparent in EFL writings. The data was collected from 66 students studying English at Girls College of arts and administration of science in Makkah. The study focuses mainly on the effect of the choice of words and their relations in communicating the students’ intended meaning. The findings revealed problematic areas in collocation and sense relations aspects of lexis. The errors made in prepositional collocation were dominant. This is because sentences are rarely constructed without prepositions. Such errors were related to improper mastering of language. However, the other types of errors in the sense relations of this study scored different number of occurrences. Such errors were traced back to incomplete knowledge of english due to failure in teaching it. The students’ unawareness of the different sense relations is a series and an existing problem that teachers need not to overlook. The study concluded emphasizing the importance of awareness and directing the students to realize the different sense relations of lexis in different contexts as a condition of mastering the language.
