المستخلص: This research demonstrates the importance of the concept of blocking the means or sadd al-dhara'i as a principle of jurisprudence and a method of deducing juridical rulings for contemporary medical issues. The paper discusses: - The meaning of blocking the means according to Islamic legal theorists. - The objective of the juridical principle of blocking the means and its categories. - The loci of controversy in the application of this principle in rule inference. - Scholarly opinions on the issue in question and choosing the weightiest opinion. - The criteria used for the application of this juridical principle. - The applications of blocking the means in contemporary medical issues such as: - milk banks, - sperm banks, - surrogacy, - permanent sterilization procedures for men and women, - human sex reassignment, - testicular transplants, - human organ trafficking, - human cloning, - euthanasia.
