موضوع البحث: هو البحث في أحد المرجحات بين الأدلـة، وهـو الترجـيح بعمـل السلف، دراسة تأصيلية تطبيقية، والمقصود بالمسألة أن يقترن بأحد الخبرين، أو القولين المتعارضين عمل السلف، مع بلوغ الحديث الآخر لمن عمل بخلافه، وعيبهم على من أخذ بالقول الآخر. ويهدف البحـث إلـى جمـع أقـوال العلمـاء في المسـألة وتحريـر أقـوالهم وأدلـتهم، والترجـيح بينها، والنظر فيما يترتب على القول بالترجيح به من مسائل أصولية، ومسائل فقهية. والمنهج المتبع في البحث: هو المنهج الاستقرائي التحليلي. وقد انتظم البحث في مقدمة، وتمهيد وأربعة مباحث، ثم خاتمة فيها أبرز نتـائج البحـث، والتـي منهـا: أن أفضـل تعريـف يمكـن أن يعرف به الترجيح ويسلم من المعـارض هـو أنـه: تقويـة إحـدى الأمـارتين علـى الأخـرى لـدليل غيـر ظاهر، ومنها: أن العمل بالقول الراجح هو المتعين الواجب، ومنهـا: أن الترجـيح بعمـل السـلف هـو الذي عليه عمل الأئمة من جميع المذاهب الأربعة.
