تبحث هذه الدراسة في المهارات الاتصالية عند المحررين الصحفيين وترتيب أولويات امتلاكها لديهم إذ تلعب المهارات الاتصالية دورا مهما في نجاح عملية التحرير الصحفي للرسالة بكل أنواعها سواء كانت خبرا أو مقالا أو تقريرا أو تحقيقا أو حديثا، وتتنوع هذه المهارات بين الأساسية المتعلقة بالاتصال والملاحظة القوية وسرعة التعبير وبين المكملة لها المتعلقة باللغة والمعنى والإرسال والاستقبال، وتأتي هذه الدراسة لتركز الضوء على هذه المهارات، واختارت المحررون الصحفيون العاملون في جريدة الزمان ليكونوا محور دراستها الميدانية باستخدام أسلوب الحصر الشامل، تكونت الدراسة من ثلاثة محاور الأول يتعلق بالإطار المنهجي من حيث تحديد مشكلة الدراسة وتساؤلاتها وأهدافها ومنهجها وأدوات البحث المستخدمة فيها، والثاني يتعلق بالإطار النظري من حيث تحديد مفهوم المهارات وأنواعها والتدريبات الاتصالية واللغوية والآلية المرتبطة بها، أما المحور الثالث فقد كان ميدان الدراسة التطبيقية الميدانية من خلال عرض ما أسفرت عنه استمارة الاستبانة.
