Ismail AL-Arif is considered one of the characters that participated in many main actions happened in Iraq due to his participating in organizing (Federal Officers) and led the 14th of July 1958 revolution that made basic changes in the Iraqi political streams. For what proceeded, this thesis of M. A. degree took the title "Ismail Arif and his political and military role in Iraq". The thesis was distributed among three chapters and a conclusion, the first chapter dealt with his family and childhood and his military character. It concentrated on the roots of his family, his education, attending the military academy and his grading in military positions. The second chapter dealt with his political action before the revolution in 1958, his preparations for the revolution, his action after the revolution and his relation with the leader Abdul-Kareem Qassim. The third chapter dealt with his official action as a minister of Education (Ma'arif) in the state of Iraq and his role in building the educational institutions in addition to his concern in culture, arts and sports things that he considered as important parts of building the new society. The thesis reached to a conclusion that summarized his studied curriculum vitie and his tendency and love to his military carrier that he considered a way of serving Iraq. He considered the official job as a trust that he is responsible of. In the field of political work, he considered the good, stability and the completion of the independence of the country as a main goal that he worked for a lot. In the field of his social actions, he was so interested in youth and their spare time good filling. He also showed the importance of culture, arts, and sports in building a modern country.
