520 |a This research aims at investigating the effect of "P.O.S.S.E" strategy in reading comprehension among second intermediate students in Islamic education. The researcher used the experimental design of two equivalent groups (experimental and control) and chose intended sample which consisted of (70) students distributed into two sections. Both groups (experimental and control) were equalized in terms of their age, the level of students’ achievement in Islamic education for the previous academic year (2011-2012), intelligence and parents’ levels of education. After determining the instructional material which involved (10) subjects in the Holy Qur’an and Islamic Education, the researcher designed (160) behavioural objectives depending on Bloom's Taxonomy in the levels of cognitive domain (knowledge, understanding, and application). The researcher also made lesson plans for teaching the mentioned above subjects according to "P.O.S.S.E" strategy and the traditional method. The experiment lasted for the whole first term. The researcher constructed post-test to measure the achievement in reading comprehension in the Holy Qur’an and Islamic Education. This test consisted of (40) multiple choice items. The researcher exposed the items test to the jury members in order to ensure its face validity. Then, the test was administered to the pilot study to check its difficulty level, discrimination power and evaluation of distracters. It was stated that all the items are suitable according to the acceptable criteria. The researcher used the retest method to measure the reliability of the test which appears (0,944). The data collected have been analysed using t-test for two independent samples at (0.05) significance level. The findings revealed that there is a significant difference between the experimental group taught by "P.O.S.S.E" strategy and the control taught according to the traditional method in favour of the experimental one. Therefore, the null hypothesis that is presented earlier is rejected. In the light of the findings above, certain conclusions and recommendations are formulated, most important of which are:  Relying on "P.O.S.S.E" strategy in teaching Islamic Education because it has proved its effectiveness and it provides instructional atmosphere that leads to the co-operation, discussion, research and the scientific evaluation.  Teachers and educational supervisors should take care of this strategy because it improves the achievement, develops thinking, and adjusts students' behaviour. On the basis of the findings, the researcher has suggested the following for further studies:  A study can be suggested to investigate the effect of "P.O.S.S.E" strategy in Islamic Education for various levels on some dependent variables such as the achievement, thinking in its types (organizational, contemplative, visual, creative, critical), increasing self confidence and self-esteem, etc.
