المستخلص: INTRODUCTION: Diarrhea is a common disease in Sudan and affect all childhood ages but it is treatable, and if left untreated it can cause severe dehydration and death. Rotavirus affects children worldwide in rich and poor countries, while Rotavirus deaths and hospitalization vary by region and country, the vast majority of rotavirus deaths in young children are found in low-income countries in Africa and Asia. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate outcome of rotavirus vaccination on diarrhea in Al Obied pediatric hospital from 2012 to 2013. METHOD: The study was retrospective, cross sectional hospital based descriptive study included all children under five years attending Al Obied pediatric hospital. Data was collected two years prior introduction of the vaccine in Al Obied pediatric hospital and during the year 2012-2013 it included 1452 child. RESULTS: The study showed that the percentages of children vaccinated against rotavirus was only 9.2% while the positive cases identified represented 11.4%. CONCLUSION: This low percentage of vaccination was probably attributed to inclusion of children above the targeted age, ignorance of mothers to differentiate between rotavirus and polio vaccine and the limited coverage of the vaccine in Sudan.
