المستخلص: The purpose of the present study was to formulate and evaluate losartan potassium tablet using HPMC, Guar gum and Xanthan gum. The tablets were prepared by wet granulation method. The granules were evaluated for angle of repose, loose bulk density, tapped bulk density and compressibility index and they revealed satisfactory results. All the granules were lubricated and compressed and were evaluated for uniformity of weight, content of active ingredient, friability, hardness and In-vitro dissolution studies. HPMC formulae 5% showed the best flow ability of granules, hardness, friability and prolong release profile when compared with xanthan gum and guar gum, the effect of type and concentration of binder used was not significant in weight variation, however it was significant in hardness and friability of tablets. In vitro dissolution study indicated that the main factors which influence the amount of drug released for this study were the type and concentration of binders, increasing the concentration of binder decreases the amount of drug released. The effect of type of binders on the amount released significant. It can be concluded that the HPMC (5%) might be the best binding agent than xanthan and guar gum.
