إن المشتقات الصرفية وجدت مبعثرة في ثنايا كتب الأقدمين من خلال حديثهم عن الاشتقاق وصيغ الزوائد؛ وذلك لأن المصطلح الصرفي لم يصل إلى مرحلة النضج بعد، وكثيرا ما يتطرقون لهذه المشتقات في أبواب النحو لتبيين عملها من خلال التراكيب. أما في المرحلة التي استقل فيها علم الصرف بالتأليف، فقد استمر الحال على ما كان عليه فلم تخصص لهذه المشتقات أبواب بعينها، وظلت تطرح من خلال الحديث عن صيغ الزوائد، ولقد سار كثير من المحدثين على ذات النهج إلى أن اتضحت ملامح هذه الأبواب في كتب الدرس الصرفي التي أثرت المكتبات العربية، ولكن ما أن تقارن بين كتابين حتى تجد فارقا في تريب أبوابها، والسبب في ذلك أنهم اعتمدوا على كثرة الاستعمال في ترتيب هذه الأبواب الأمر الذي نتج عنه التباين الواضح في مؤلفاتهم ودراساتهم من حيث مواقع هذه الأبواب. ومع أن جميع المؤلفات تبدأ بتفصيل القول عن المصدر بوصفه الجذر الأصل للمشتقات وفقا لمذهب البصريين، فكان الأحرى بهم أن يجعلوا هذا المصدر أساسا لترتيب هذه المشتقات كما جعلوه أصلا لاشتقاقها.
The morphological derivatives are dispersed in the classic books of scholars, in which they expressed their opinions about the derivation and affixation because the morphological term has not yet reached a degree of advancement at that time. Therefore, the scholars often address these derivatives in the sections of grammar to show their functions in structures. As for the period in which morphology has become a dependent to discipline by itself, derivatives have remained as they were and no sections were assigned to study them. Many of the modernists followed the same approach until the parameters of these sections have become palpable in books of morphology, which influenced the Arab libraries, but once you compare the two books until you find differences in the order of these sections. The reason is that they relied on the frequent use of Ordering of these sections, which resulted in a clear contrast in their writings and studies in terms of the positions of these sections. Although all the collection of works begins with a detailed description of the infinitive as a root of the origin of the derivatives according to the approach of the Basra Scholars, they were rather to make this infinitive a basis for their derivation.
