المستخلص: The theme of space occupies a central place in Ahmed Mahfoudh’s oeuvre and especially in his novel, Jours d’automne a Tunis. Indeed, it is through space (the city, the open and closed places, the ancestral house and the new home) that Saber, the main character, evolves over the course of the story. He finds himself in a new universe which does not resemble him, for he was forced to leave his original home, his paradise. For this history teacher, who is in love with the Medina, this is a descent into hell. Paradoxically, the wife Taos doesn’t deal with the situation in the same way. Being materialistic and authoritarian, she doesn’t hesitate to drive Adam out of paradise. The novella thus traces the changes and evolutions the characters underwent: they are closely related to the different spaces they occupy.

Le thème de l’espace occupe une place centrale dans l’œuvre de Ahmed Mahfoudh, et notamment dans Jours d’automne à Tunis. En effet, c’est à travers l’espace: la ville, les lieux ouverts et fermés, la maison ancestrale et le nouveau foyer, que Saber le personnage principal évoluera au fil de l’intrigue. Contraint de quitter la maison originelle, son paradis, il se retrouve dans un nouvel univers qui ne lui ressemble pas. Une véritable descente aux enfers commencera alors pour ce professeur d’histoire amoureux de la Médina. Paradoxalement, l’épouse Taos ne vit pas la situation de la même manière; matérialiste et autoritaire, elle n’hésitera pas à chasser son Adam du paradis. Ainsi, l’œuvre retrace les différents changements vécus par les personnages principaux, des changements étroitement liés aux espaces qu’ils occupent.
