Molecular Detection and Prevalence of Cryptosporidium Parvum, Entamoeba Histolytica and Giardia Lamblia Among Patients with Diarrhea at al- Rifai city Thi–Qar Province

المستخلص: This study is carried out in Thi–Qar Province/ Al-Rifai district in Al-Rifai general Hospital which included collection of stool samples from diarrheic patients at a period extended from October / 2017 – January / 2018 , 603 stool samples taken from patients with different ages to both sexes examined by microscopic examination and by PCR technique .The results by microscopic examination show that percentage of positive samples are 34.3% while 65.7% are negative, Cryptosporidium parvum (19.8%), Entamoeba histolytica (67.7%), and Giardia lamblia (12.5%), there was no significant statistical differences between males and females in case of these three parasites but there are significant differences between Urban and Rural habitation, Also There are no significant statistical differences between age groups . While the results by PCR examination show that percentage of positive samples are 63.5% while 36.5% are negative Cryptosporidium parvum (11.9%), Entamoeba histolytica (22.6%) and Giardia lamblia (65.5%), no significant statistical differences between males, females and between Urban and Rural habitation while there are significant statistical differences between age groups (the highest rate in less than 1- 10 years and lowest age group was (11- 20 years), the present study show highest parasitic infection in case of blood group "O" and lowest in case of "AB" and significant statistical differences between patients and control WBC counts while no significant statistical differences between patients and control "HB" and "PCV" concluded the prevalence of the Cryptosporidium parvum, Entamoeba histolytca and Giardia lamblia considered as the main causative agents of diarrhea in Al-Refai city.
