حرف الباء هو واحد من حروف المعاني التي اشترك الأصوليون والنحويون في بحثها، وهو يدل على معانٍ كثيرة، غير أن أكثر المعاني أثراً في الأحكام الشرعية هي الإلصاق والسببية والتعدية والمصاحبة والتبعيض والعِوض والظرفية والقسم. وهذه المعاني التسعة لم تكن كلها محل وفاق بين العلماء، بل منهم من خالف في دلالة الباء على بعضها كالتبعيض، ووقع الإجماع على بعضها كالإلصاق. وترجح لي صحة دلالتها على بقية المعاني. ومما ينبغي ملاحظته أن علماء الفقه والأصول أوردوا تطبيقات معاني الباء في نصوص الشرع، وفي حديث الخلق مما يجري في كلام المتبايعين والواقفين والموصين والمرين بالحقوق والأزواج المطلقين وغيرهم، لكن شرط التطبيق في كلام الناس كون أولئك يتكلمون وفق اللغة الفصحى، أو على الأقل يستعملون هذا الحرف فيما تقتضيه لغة العرب.
The letter of bāʾ is one of ḥurūf al-maʿānī that was researched by both grammarians and scholars of the principles of Islamic Jurisprudence. It bears many meanings, but the most influential meanings in the provisions of Sharia are adjoining, causality, transgression, accompaniment, substitution, adverbial and oath. These meanings were not all agreed upon among the scholars; some of them disagreed in the meanings of some of them as substitutions, and the consensus on some of them as adjoining. And the validity of its implication to the rest of the meanings. It should be noted that the scholars of jurisprudence and the Islamic principles applied the meanings on the texts in the law, and in the hadith of the creation and the words of sellers and buyers, givers of charity endowments and will writers and divorced couples and others. It is required that in order to apply these meanings on the words of people, they should speak according to the standard language fuṣḥā, or at least use the letter bāʾ in accordance with Arabic language.
