تحكم العلاقات السعودية المصرية اعتبارات عديدة منها الترابط الديني واللغوي والاجتماعي، فالمصريون يرتبطون عاطفيا ودينياً بالمملكة لأنها تضم الحرمين الشريفين، اللذين يتطلع المصريون لزيارتهما، إضافة إلى الارتباط الاقتصادي من خلال عمل ملايين العمالة المصرية بكافة مستوياتها وتخصصاتها، إلى جانب العلاقات السياسية التي انطلقت منذ لقاء الملك عبد العزيز بالملك فاروق عام 1945م، وما اتسمت به من ضعف وقوة عبر مراحلها. ويمكن رصد هذه العلاقة من خلال أربعة مراحل: 1. مرحلة التقارب: هي التي شهدت توافقاً بين السعودية بقيادة الملك عبد العزيز وبين مملكة مصر بقيادة الملك فاروق. 2. مرحلة التنافر: هي مرحلة ثورة الضباط الأحرار بقيادة عبد الناصر، حيث اتسمت بالقطيعة السياسية. 3. مرحلة التكامل: وجاءت بعد حرب أكتوبر عام 73م ومشاركة المملكة بقطع إمدادات النفط عالميا، ثم قطع العلاقات بسبب اتفاقية كامب ديفيد، ثم عودة العلاقات في عهد حسني مبارك وما وصلت إليه من تطابق في الرؤية للقضايا العربية والدولية. 4. مرحلة الثورة: هي التي حدث فيها ارتباك في العلاقات بين البلدين، وصولا إلى حكم جماعة الإخوان المسلمين عام 2012م، وما صاحبه من انفلات إعلامي وصل إلى المساس بصورة المملكة ومكانتها، ثم الإطاحة بحكم الإخوان المسلمين بمباركة من المملكة حيث رأت في ذلك تصحيحاً لمسار الحكم في مصر التي تشكل مع المملكة ثقلا في استقرار المنطقة وتمثلان عمقا استراتيجيا لكافة الدول العربية.
The Saudi- Egyptian relations are governed by several considerations. Among these considerations are the religious, linguistic, and social correlation. Egyptians are correlated emotionally and religiously with Saudi Arabia as the latter hosts the Two Holy Mosques for which a large number of Egyptians are looking forward to visiting. In addition, Egypt is economically related to Saudi Arabia since millions of Egyptians are working in Saudi Arabia at all levels and specialties. Over and above is the political ties between both countries, which had been launched since King Abdul Aziz met King Farooq in 1945. However, political ties between both countries have been characterized by stages of strength and weakness. Hence, the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Egypt can be traced thru four stages as shown below. 1. Rapprochement: It is the stage at which the relationship between Saudi Arabia led by King Abdul Aziz and King Farooq of Egypt had been in harmony 2. Estrangement: It is the stage of the Liberal Officers’ Uprising led by Abdul Nasser. The stage had been apparently characterized by rupture of political ties 3. Integration: It is the stage coming after the October 1973 War and contribution of Saudi Arabia to the rupture of international oil supplies. However, the ties were ruptured again because of Camp David Accord. Ties between both counties were resumed at the regime of President Hosni Mubarak. At the era of President Mubarak, vision of both counties towards Arab and international issues was identical. 4. Uprising Era: At a time, ties between both counties have experienced some certain kind of confusion, as the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) took the Office in 2012. Meanwhile, mass media was in a chaotic transition mess as Saudi Arabia and its rank were subject to inappropriate hassle. Afterwards, the Muslim Brotherhood was toppled with blessing from Saudi Arabia as the latter envisioned such a move to be a corrective action to the course of regime in Egypt. In fact, Egypt together with Saudi Arabia are representing a heavy weight factor to stability of the region; and further representing a strategic depth to all Arab countries.
