المستخلص: The fourth century of the Hegira is considered one of the luminous centuries in the history of the Arab criticism. It is the culturaloutcome of the former centuries resulting from the blending of Arab culture with other cultures. Therefore, it represents a turning point in literary studies in general and criticalstudies in particular, wherewriters did not only collect verses of poetry, retell and explainthem; but they transgressed it to dig deep searchingan explanation for the confused ones.Perhaps, searching in the laterrepresentsan aware andintellectual resurgence in which authors try to prove their merit in the arena of criticism. There is no doubt, the meditator in the explanation of the problematic in poetry will find that it characterizes by fertility and richness. It blends between eastern and western thinking in the explanation of verses to raise its confusion. And this blending gives these explanations privacy separately from other and are used by plenty of room calls for something that is a little attention and research. From here, the researcher starts reading these explanations, following the comparative approach of eastern and western explanations, descriptive and analytical approach, to learn how the explainers of the poetic problem use literature and linguistics to verify it, and to show real efforts for each team of them. The researcher does not intend in this study to show dexterity and prevailing of one team on the other, but to demonstrate the ability of each team to address the issues of this phenomenon and to identify similarities and differences in those treatments.

Choosing this topic is not a coincidence. Although there are a number of books written on this phenomenon, writers and authors of lexicons and books of ancient and modern terminology did not pay attention for rooting this term and putting limits for it. In addition, there is no researcher shows its causes poetically or collects its sources. Also, there is another reason for choosing this topic: generally this study comes in the context of the interest in poetic heritage, and particularly it shows how writers and critics are interested in poetry. The study is divided into three chapters. The first chapter consists of two sections. The first section, entitled (the problematic in poetry, terminology, causes, sources), begins with a brief introduction about the problematic in Quran which is, perhaps, the one that fires the minds of critics to look into this phenomenon and make it serve as a doorway to define the problematic. The researcher attracts it in the fields of knowledge that tackled it and how (linguists, experts of Quranic studies, Alhadith researchers, scholars, fundamentalists, and critics) tackle it. Then, the researcher turns to find out the causes of the problematic in poetry which represented with (cataphora, anaphora, and necessity of poetry... etc.). Also, the researcher tries to collect books of the problematic that preceded what was written about the problematic in poetry, which are books of the problematic in Quran and the prophetic Hadith, in order to study the books that study this phenomenon poetically. The second section is entitled (books of the problematic in poetry: a study in the curriculum). The researcher studies the methods of these explanations, following the historical approach in order. The researcher starts with Poetry or The Explanation of Verses that are Problematic in Syntax by Abo Ali Al- Farisi (died in 377 A.H), ending with Verses Election to Detect the Problematic in SyntaxbyIbinAdlanMusli (died in 666 A.H). The second chapter, consists of three sections, is devoted to the critical issues which tackle the explanation of the problematic. The first section is devoted to linguistic criticism which is represented by (choosing words, criticism of the novel, criticism of the explanations, music). The second section is devoted to the issues of the criticism of meanings which are (exaggeration, creativity and invention, foreign wording, commentary between the lines), while the third section is devoted to the study of (plagiarism). The third chapter is about the arts of rhetoric and its use of the explanations in solving the problematic. This chapter is divided into three sections. The first section is semantics which is about (interrogatory of the rhetorical meanings, pray for the meanings of rhetorical, division, deletion and ellipsis, anaphora and cataphora). The second section handles rhetoric (simile, metaphor, metonymy), and the third section tackles the style (hint, complimenting what looks like slander, opposition, antithesis, good reasoning, verbal doctrine). Who reads the study may find that there are examples repeated in different chapters or sections because they bear more than one meaning. Finally, the conclusion sums up the findings of the study.
