The colonists invaded Algeria, treading the blood tracks of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. The coloniser wanted to uproot the people’s national identity and to strip them of their character of their being Arabs and Moslems, especially when the French knew the importance of mosques and "Zawayas" in the inhabitants ‘life. Henceforth, many of the Moslem scholars "Oulama" were either thrown in jails or put in confinements, and others were exiled far from their home country. In spite of this fact, the colonisers did not manage to stifle the call for martyrdom "Jihad" because the people were committed to fight the enemy and made an oath to regain Algeria: "We are resolved that Algeria shall live". This was even through the revelation of the colonists who raised their means to silence the inhabitants by various methods of torture and execution. However, the fighters will to resist was stronger as the Algerian combatants strongly believed that the outcome of their launched holy wars was either martyrdom or access to eternal paradise or independence and life in freedom. Thus, in both situations, the Algerian fighter was the winner. With this conviction the Algerian freedom fighters made a war where warriors at an early age were taking roles of aged soldiers for the sake of saving their Moslem country and their people.
