المستخلص: The term heritage is regarded as an overlapping concept because it encompasses a group of components, such as the oral and written tradition, monuments, architecture, historical information, customs and traditions, which delineate an image of ancient Arabic life in a time in which the cognitive is mixed with the aesthetic. Accordingly, the door of heritage is left wide open for academic attempts that aim at bursting into it. However, this attempt does not claim that the previous studies failed in achieving their aims. It, in fact, attempts to use a new approach, armed with different tools and potentials, which brings into light some of the latent visions in traditional texts. Besides, this study tries to specifically study Stories of Arabs which represents an attentively-chosen group of stories selected by a group of experts in heritage from among enormous traditional records that contain different and tremendous types of texts. This dissertation aims to treat three basic concepts: story, authority and Hermeneutics, which are highly connected and interacted because story-telling is close to fiction, in its comprehensive meaning, and it includes a huge amount of works of fiction and non-fiction. Arabic heritage throws an emphasis on story, which is rated as the second genre after poetry. Hence, story ramifies into numerous types because it reflects the nature of the society in which it initiated and reveals its ideological and social dimensions in addition to its historical circumstances. As for authority, it is regarded as a complex concept that belongs to numerous areas such as political, religious, social, cognitive and psychological field. This dissertation, procedurally, attempts to treat the concept of authority as a power of affecting, subjugating and manipulating the Other for previously-formulated targets. This matter agrees with Michel Foucault’s definition of Power that says that Power is built upon a group of relationships fighting each other through certain concepts, such as strength, knowledge and discourse, to form a special type of authority.

This study tends to adopt an interpretative practice as an approach in studying traditional texts in accordance with their advantages from western imagination which produced Hermeneutics, as one of the theories of Postmodernism (such as Historicism, cultural criticism, aesthetics of delivery and Deconstruction), that tends to leave out talking about what is literary and what is non-literary and replaces it by talking about discourse as an act of power that is related to a large web of political, aesthetic, social, ideological systems and relationships. After taking advantage of the ideas of the pioneers of Hermeneutics, such as Heidegger, Gadamer, Paul Ricoeur and Habermas, and manipulating their legislations, a group of results are achieved. The concept of authority is dealt as a group of religious, psychological, social, political and ideological patterns instead of classically dealing with it as power. Besides, in ancient Arabic fiction, an unveiling is conducted to the image of the ruler, which used to be formed due to social proof that came from latent ideological visions. Moreover, the potentials of epistemic authority with its patterns that are represented in the authority of social traditions and customs, the cultural authority with its numerous patterns, the sentimental authority and the sample of body in its doubling study between what is sentimental and what is cultural, are all specified. As for the last chapter, it focuses on the authority of the text as it is a martial law that resembles the authority of constitutional laws in terms of their orally-conducted hegemony upon the Other to achieve their aims, penetrating in this action the ages to maintain their power up to the current time. Two samples are chosen to represent this vision: poetry and proverbs. This study, as an attempt of Hermeneutics, seeks to manipulate a modern intellectual approach in ancient traditional texts to bring into light and analyze the latent potentials of authority and its prominent dimensions and epistemic patterns.
