المستخلص: المستوى الصوتي أحد الجوانب الأساسية المعروفة في الدراسة العلمية للغة، وقد كان للعرب، قديما، فضل السبق في هذا الجانب، فكانوا من أوائل من درسوا الصوت اللغوي من جوانبه المتعددة دراسة علمية: فقدموا وصفا علميا للأصوات من حيث مواضع نطقها، وصفاتها، وتأثيراتها التركيبية، وقيمها الدلالية والوظيفية، وجاءت دراساتهم لهذه الجوانب أصيلة في منهجها وطرائق دراستها، وكان ذلك كله ضمن اهتمامهم المعروف بالمحافظة على لغة القرآن الكريم وقراءاته.
وقد كانت البداية مبكرة جدا حيث تزامنت مع بداية ظهور اللحن وتفشيه على ألسنة الناس؛ فهب العلماء من أجل المحافظة على لغة هذا الكتاب الخالد يدرسونها على كافة مستوياتها الصوتية، والصرفية والنحوية، والدلالية، والمعجمية.
ومن أبرز جوانب دراسة الصوت عندهم جانبان: دراسة الصوت بوصفه حدثا نطقيا، ودراسة الصوت بوصفه وحدة تجريدية ذات وظيفة معينة، ويعنينا هذا الجانب الأخير الذي يمثل القيمة الدلالية للحروف، قضية هذا البحث، حيث يعرض بحثنا لهذه القضية وتطوراتها من خلال تناول علماء العربية لهذه القضية بداية من أقدم إشارة لها في كتب القدماء حتى العصر الحديث، ومن أجل ذلك خططنا لهذا البحث أن يتكون من: مقدمة وثلاثة مباحث وخاتمة: المبحث الأول: دلالة الحروف عند القدماء. والمبحث الثاني: دلالة الحروف عند المحدثين. والمبحث الثالث: وصف تكوين الحروف العربية وبيان قيمها الدلالية.

The sound level is one of the key aspects known in the scientific study of the language. The Arabs had, in the past, preferred to take the lead on this side. They were among the first to study the many aspects of the linguistic sound in a scientific manner. They gave a scientific description of sounds in terms of their pronunciation, characteristics, synthetic effects, semantic, and functional values. Their studies of these aspects were rooted in their methodology and methods of study. This was all part of their well-known interest in preserving the language and readings of the Koran.
The beginning was very early, coinciding with the beginning of the melody and its spread on people's tongues. Scholars studied it at vocal, morphological, grammatical, semantic, and lexical levels to preserve the language of this immortal book.
The study of sound have two important aspects:
The study of sound as a pronunciation event,
The study of sound as an abstract unit with a certain function.
This last aspect, which represents the semantic value of the letters, concerns us as the subject of this research. This study discusses the subject and its developments through the studies carried out by Arab scholars starting from the earliest reference to it in the books of the ancient scholars until the modern era. Therefore, we planned this research to consist of an introduction, three chapters, and a conclusion: The first chapter discusses the semantics of letters in view of ancient scholars, and the second chapter discusses the semantics of letters in view of modern scholars, while the third chapter deals with the description of the composition of Arabic letters and demonstration of their semantic values.
