المستخلص: يقوم أي تخصص علمي في مجتمع المعرفة على العديد من المقومات منها البشرية والمادية، والمهنية ولعل المهنية في مجال علم المعلومات تشمل المكتبات ومراكز المعلومات، ودور الوثائق، والمتاحف، والجمعيات المهنية، ولا يخفى على أي مختص دور الجمعيات المهنية الفاعل في مجال التخصص، ولعل المتابع للإنتاج الفكري العالمي والمتابع لحركة نمو التخصص في مجال مجتمع المعرفة يلاحظ الدور الرئيس للجمعيات المهنية إذ لها دورا بارزا في تأطير التخصص والتعريف به وإعطائه صبغة اعتبارية كما أن من شأنها ومجهوداتها مد جسور التواصل والعمل التعاوني التكاملي مع المؤسسات الأكاديمية وسوق العمل فضلا عن دورها التدريبي المواكب لآخر التطورات العلمية المعرفية وفق احدث التقنيات وذلك من خلال توظيف إمكانات تكنولوجيا الاتصالات الحديثة بهدف صقل المختصين بكل ما هو جديد في مجال اختصاص ومن هذه الجمعيات والتي تتحدث عنها أعمالها جمعية المكتبات الأمريكية وجمعية المكتبات البريطانية وجمعية المكتبات الكندية وفي الطرف المقابل وعلى الصعيد العربي واستنادا إلى نتائج بعض الدراسات هناك ضعفا في دور الجمعيات المهنية وعدم مواكبة أداء تلك الجمعيات لمتطلبات مجتمع المعرفة اليوم وفي هذه الورقة تم التركيز على دراسة واقع جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات السعودية في ظل التطورات المتلاحقة في المجتمع المعرفي وكذلك معرفة واقعها وإنجازاتها وخططها المستقبلية وذلك استنادا للمعلومات الرسمية الواردة على موقع الجمعية الشبكي وكذلك التواصل مع القائمين على الجمعية للحصول على معلومات موثقة وقد توصلت الدراسة إلى العديد من النتائج منها أن الجمعيات المهنية تعد مؤسسات حيوية لا غنى عنها وأن الحاجة لوجودها في مجتمع المعرفة لم تقل بل ازدادت وأن واقع جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات السعودية يعكس أنها تفتقر إلى العديد من مقومات الوجود الداعم للمهنة كالتعاون والتنسيق والتواصل مع أصحاب الاختصاص والاهتمام المشترك وقد أوصت الدراسة بجملة توصيات منها ضرورة التعامل مع الجمعيات المهنية كمؤسسات ذات دور فاعل في مجتمع المعرفة اليوم والعمل على تحقيق الاستفادة من تجارب الجمعيات المهنية العالمية في مجال التخصص تفعيل دور الأساتذة والمستشارين والطاقات الشبابية في تطوير أداء جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات السعودية.

Any academic specialization in in knowledge society depends on several potentials including human, material, and financial ones. Professional aspects in the field of information field include libraries, information centers ، documents houses, museums, and professional associations. The effective role of professional associations in specialization field is not a secret for all specialists. The follower of global intellectual production and movement of specialization development in the field of knowledge society observes the main role of professional associations that has a prominent role in framing and introducing specialization as well as giving it a legal feature. their efforts include building bridges of communication and complementary collaborative work between academic institutions and labor market besides their training role coping up with the latest cognitive scientific updates according the most modern technology through utilizing the potentials of modern information technology aiming to provide specialists with all new in specialization field .These associations we talk about include the American Library Association, British Library Association, and Canadian Library Association. On the other hand, at the Arab level based on the findings of some studies, there is a weakness of the professional associations' role and not meeting the requirements of today's knowledge society. In this paper, concentration is made on the reality of Saudi Library & Information Association in view of rapid developments of the knowledge society to identify their reality, achievements, and future plans based on the formal information stated in the association's website and contract with its officials to get reliable information. The study reached several findings including that professional associations are considered vital institutions and the need for them in knowledge society did not decrease but increase. The reality of Saudi library and information associations reflect their lack to several existence potentials supporting profession such as cooperation, coordination, and communication with the concerned persons and joint internet. The study proposed several recommendations including the necessity to deal with professional associations as institutions with effective role in today's knowledge society and work on benefiting from international professional associations in specialization field as well as activating the role of professors and advisors and youth powers to develop the performance of Saudi Library & Information Association
