لا يخفى أن علم غريب الحديث فن جليل القدر، عظيم القيمة، له خطره في فهم الحديث النبوي الشريف: فهو من أهم العلوم وأشرفها، وأفضلها وأنفعها، لتعلقه بفهم المراد من حديث المعصوم- صلى الله عليه وسلم- وآثار صحابته الكرام. كما لا يخفى أيضاً ما لمصنف أبي عبيد في غريب الحديث من مكانة عالية، بين المدونات العلمية في هذا الفن، إذ يعد عمدة المصنفات في علم غريب الحديث، لما اشتمل عليه من مقدرة تامة في بيان اللفظ، وصحة المعنى، وجودة الاستنباط وكثرة الفقه. حتى أضحى هذا الكتاب القيم إماماً لأهل الحديث، به يتذاكرون، وإليه يتحاكمون. وانطلاقاً من هذه الأهمية كان هذا البحث الذي يتناول بالدراسة العلمية اختيارات أبي عبيد القاسم بن سلام في تفسيره للألفاظ اللغوية ودلالتها في كتابه "غريب الحديث" من خلال الموازنة بين جميع الآراء التي قيلت في تأويل الحديث؛ رغبة في الوقوف على أحسن الآراء، وأقربها، من مراد رسول الله، ومراد صحابته الكرام من بعده. والله أسأل وأن يجعله خالصاً لوجهه الكريم، وأن ينفع به شداة العربية ولغة القرآن.
