|d L’un des objectifs de nombreux pays du monde moderne est de réduire les différences entre les genres dans tous les domaines notamment celui de la santé mentale. Ceci implique la prise en compte d’autres déterminants que les déterminants biologiques dans la genèse du trouble mental. Ce qui lui confère une nouvelle analyse en référence à son aspect biologique, psychologique, social et genré. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser les mutations opérées dans la problématique du genre dans la maladie mentale, et ce : à travers, un parcours historique des études faites dans le champ de la psychiatrie et de la santé mentale d’une part; et d’autre part, par une étude sociologique basée sur une approche ethnographique sur terrain. Nous présentons quelques résultats issus du décryptage du discours de nos enquêtés, qui illustrent le lien et l’influence réciproque entre le genre et la maladie mentale, que nous qualifions de «la souffrance psychique genrée».

|b One of the goals of many countries in the modern world is to reduce gender differences in all areas, including mental health. This implies the need to consider other determinants than biological determinants in the genesis of the mental disorder. This gives the mental illness a new analysis with reference to its biological, psychological, social and gendered aspects. The purpose of this article is to analyze the changes that have been made in the issue of gender in mental illness, through: A historical background of studies in the field of psychiatry and mental health on the one hand; and on the other hand, a sociological study based on an ethnographic approach on the ground. We present some results from the decryption of the speeches of our respondents, which illustrate the link and the reciprocal influence between gender and mental illness, which we describe as "gendered psychic suffering".
