تتحدد مشكلة البحث الحالي في الإجابة على التساؤل الآتي: ما هي أسباب نبذ كبار السن في المجتمع العراقي من وجهة نظر الشباب البغدادي، ومن خلال ما تقدم من أهمية البحث الحالي ارتأت الباحثة ضرورة استعراض ظاهرة نبذ كبار السن، وتوضيح أسبابها ومظاهرها وخصائص كبار السن، ويمكن أيجاز مسوغات أهمية البحث بأهمية فئة كبار السن ودورها في التنمية الشاملة وبناء المجتمع والارتقاء بدوره، وأهمية رعايتهم وصون حقوقهم واعتبارهم جزء من المجتمع لهم حقوق وعليهم واجبات، وأهمية رعاية الدولة لهم وإشباع احتياجاتهم وإدراج هذه الاحتياجات ضمن خطط سياساتها، وأهمية احتواء الأعداد المتزايدة لهم ووضع الخطط المستقبلية للحيلولة دون تعرضهم للنبذ وسوء المعاملة والإهمال والعنف، ويستهدف البحث الحالي التعرف على أسباب نبذ كبار السن في المجتمع العراقي من وجهة نظر الشباب البغدادي، ويقتصر على شباب محافظة بغداد من الذكور والإناث فئة (18-24) سنة، لسنة (2019)، وقامت الباحثة ببناء أداة البحث الحالي وتتمثل باستبيان أسباب نبذ كبار السن في المجتمع العراقي من وجهة نظر الشباب البغدادي: إذ تم بناءه في ضوء الاستبيان المفتوح ويتكون من (16) فقرة، وتألفت عينة بناء الاستبيان وتطبيقه على (300) شاب وشابه من مدينة بغداد، واتصف الاستبيان بالخصائص السيكومترية المتمثلة بالتمييز والصدق والثبات، واستعملت الباحثة الحقيبة الإحصائية (SPSS) لتحليل البيانات، وتوصلت الباحثة إلى نتيجة: أن متوسط أسباب نبذ كبار السن في المجتمع العراقي من وجهة نظر الشباب البغدادي أعلى من المتوسط الفرضي، أما فيما يخص أي فقرة أكثر حدة من غيرها فتتمثل بالفقرة (5) "سوء الأخلاق وضعف الإيمان والابتعاد عن تعاليم الدين الإسلامي والأديان السماوية الأخرى التي تحث على احترام كبار السن "إذ تمثل وزنها المرجح ووزنها المئوي عنى التوالي (2.23)، (74.44)، أما أدنى درجته فقد كانت من نصيب الفقرة (3) "سوء العلاقة بين كبار السن والأفراد المحيطين بهم "إذ تمثل وزنها المرجح ووزنها المئوي على التوالي (1.96)، (65.22)، وبناءا على النتائج توصلت الباحثة إلى بعض الاستنتاجات والتوصيات والمقترحات.
