تهتم الدراسات الجيومورفولوجية التطبيقية بدراسة سير العمليات الجيومورفولوجية وتباين نوعياتها في منطقة الدراسة، إذ أن البيئة الطبيعية المناسبة ساعدت على تنشيط بعض العمليات وتشكيل المظاهر التضاريسية وما تحتويه من موارد طبيعية ضمن نظام بيئي متكامل قد يختلف عن الأنظمة المجاورة، سواء أكانت في النظم الأرضية وما تحتويه من تباين صخري أم أشكال أرضية أم مجالات استثمارية، تعكس خريطة تواجد الموارد المعدنية والبيئية في أحواض الوديان النهرية.كما تهتم الدراسات الجيومورفولوجية بتحليل السمات الجيومورفولوجية للمظاهر الأرضية في الأحواض وتوزيعها الجغرافي، وميكانيكية نشوئها ومراحل تطورها.
