Transportation is a cornerstone of a country's economy. This sector plays a key role in the development of any society, in particular by accelerating economic development. It is also a vital element for regional integration, improving quality of life and reducing poverty. However, this sector does not only have advantages, it also generates negative externalities affecting the environment. This leads us to think about developing new ways of doing things that preserve the environment and at the same time ensure economic and social development. Ways must therefore be found to reduce mobility without limiting it. This requires the use of what is called "sustainable transport". The objective of this article is to present the sustainable transport policy implemented by the public authorities and to analyse the major factors that constitute an obstacle to the development of sustainable mobility in Algeria. Although measures have already been put in place, but the results are not really felt, especially in terms of public transport, which is attracting less and less road’s users.
