The portrayal of the wars fought by his tribe against other tribes constitutes a significant portion of Qais Ibno El khateem’s poetry. This study examines his portrayal of war with emphasis on his depiction of its themes and its tools. In his treatment of war Ibno El Khateem created numerous symbols which reflect his beliefs, his perceptions, and his feelings . Moreover, Ibno El Khateem transformed these symbols into sensory imagery that reflect life. In this context, he selected particular imagery to stress the analogy between war and fire, war and his woman, and war and his she-camel. Besides, images of the weapons of war known in his time such as the sword, the armor, and the spear frequently recur in his poetry, and constitute part of the whole picture of war that he depicts. These sensory images reflect meaningful aspects of the real life in Arabia in the pre-Islamic period (Al Jahillyah).
