يمثل مرض الإيدز مشكلة صحية عالمية تتزايد حدتها يوما بعد يوم منذ ظهوره لأول مره في بداية الثمانينات. وقد كثرة الكتابات عن مرض الإيدز في تخصصات مختلفة، ولكن قلة تلك الدراسات التي تناولتها من منظور جغرافي. وإن الاهتمام بالمرض كظاهرة جغرافية لم يكن جديدا فقد اهتم الإنسان منذ القدم بالأبعاد المكانية للمرض، ومن هنا بدأ ظهور الجغرافيا الطبية كمجال من مجالات علم الجغرافيا. وتعرف الجغرافيا الطبية بأنها دراسة العلاقة بين الجغرافية وصحة الإنسان أو أنها الدراسة التي تهتم بالبحث عن التفسيرات الجغرافية لظهور الأمراض وهي تمثل حلقة الوصل بين الجغرافية من جهة والطب من جهة أخرى، بحيث يخدم كل منهما الأخر، دون أن يخرج أي منهما عن حدود تخصصه وقد هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على المعرفة والمواقف والسلوكيات تجاه مرض الإيدز في محلية سواكن. واستخدمت الباحثة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي والمسحي لجمع البيانات وتكون مجتمع الدراسة من سكان محلية سواكن وتم اختيار العينة بطريقة عشوائية.
