|a مؤشر h-index هو مؤشر ببليومتري يقيم المؤلفين على المستوى الجزئي بالجمع بين كل من عدد المقالات والاستشهادات للباحث، ويعتمد المؤشر على أعمال المؤلف الأكثر استشهادا وعدد الإستشهادات التي حصلت عليها هذه المقالات، ويمكن تطبيق هذا المؤشر على المجلات العلمية ومجموعات البحثية أو مجموعات العلماء في قسم أو جامعة أو بلد، وقد اقترح جورج هيرش هذا المؤشر عام ٢٠٠٥ م وهو عالم فيزياء في جامعة كاليفورنيا في سان ديجوا كأداة لتحديد جودة الباحثين في مجال الفيزياء ويسمى أحيانا مؤشر هيرش أو رقم هيرش لذلك فإن هذه الدراسة تهدف إلى التعرف على هذا المؤشر ومعرفة أهم مميزاته وعيوبه وأهم تعديلاته.

|b The h index is a bibliometric indicator that evaluates an author-level metric and attempts to measure both the productivity and citation impact of the publications of a scientist or scholar. The index is based on the set of the scientist's most cited papers and the number of citations received in other publications. The index can also be applied to the productivity and impact of an academic journal as well as a group of scientists, such as a department or university or country.[2] The index was suggested in 2005 by Jorge E. Hirsch, a physicist at UC San Diego, as a tool for determining theoretical physicists' relative quality[3] and it is sometimes called the Hirsch index or Hirsch number Therefore, this study aims to identify this index and to determine the most important advantages, disadvantages, and the most important revisions.
