|a المال له دور عظيم في حياة البشر، ويؤثر تأثيراً عظيماً في سلوكيات الإنسان، وقد ركز يوسف إدريس على هذه التأثيرات في روايته: العيب والحرام؛ حيث ظهر التأثير السلبي للمال على شخصيات روايتيه، فقد سلط الضوء على بعض النماذج الكادحة واهتم بالطبقة الكادحة من الفقراء الذين عضهم الفقر بنابه، ومزق نياط قلوبهم، ممن دعتهم الحاجة إلى السقوط في بئر الرذيلة، فخالفوا المبادئ السامية، وابتعدوا عن الطريق القويم، كل ذلك كان بسبب عوزهم وفقرهم، والظلم الاجتماعي الواقع عليهم، وعدم قدرتهم على القيام بمسئولياتهم، كما اهتم الكاتب وركز على العوائق السلبية المترتبة على قوة تأثير المال في سلوكيات الشخصيات، وتغيير مسار حياتها، فدافع عنهم، وهجم على النبلاء من الطبقة الارستقراطية، وهو بهذا ينصب من نفسه مصلحاً اجتماعياً وناقداً امتاز بنقده اللاذع لكثير من المشاكل الاجتماعية.
