عني الإسلام بالأخلاق ووردت الكثير من النصوص في الكتاب والسنة التي تحث على مكارم الاخلاق، وتأمر المؤمنين بالالتزام بها مخيراً أو مستحباً، فالأخلاق الحسنة مأمور بها، والأخلاق السيئة منهى عنها. واهتمت الحضارة الإسلامية بالأخلاق وحث الناس على الالتزام بها، ومن هذه الأخلاقيات أخلاقيات مهنة الطب، فقد ألفت فيها الكثير من الكتب والرسائل التي تناولت أخلاق الطبيب وآدابه. ولأهمية مهنة الطب وشرفها، فإن الطبيب لابد أن يدرك أهمية هذه المهنة، ويتخلق بما يليق بقدرها ومكانتها، فيسمو بنفسه عن ارتكاب ما من شأنه المساس بقيمة مهنته. فكما أنه يجب على الطبيب أن يجيد فن مهنته ويتقنها، ينبغي له ان يتصف بكل صفة حسنة تليق بالشرف الرفيع للمهنة، وإذا كان الإسلام يلزم أهله مكارم الأخلاق، والإتقان والإخلاص في العمل، فإنها في حق الطبيب أوجب وأوكد وألزم. من هنا كان الاهتمام بدراسة أخلاقيات مهنة الطب في الحضارة الإسلامية التي أولت هذا الجانب عناية خاصة، فصارت بمثابة الأسس والقواعد التي يرتكز عليها الطبيب المسلم في أداء مهنته.
Islam defines ethics, There are many texts in the Qur'aan and Sunnah that urge morals and enjoin believers to commit to them in a way that has a choice or desirable. Good ethics is enjoined on them, and bad morals are forbidden. Islamic civilization was concerned with ethics and urged people to adhere to it. Among these ethics is the ethics of the medical profession. It has written many books and letters dealing with the doctor's ethics and morals. And the importance of the medical profession and its honor, the doctor must be aware of the importance of this profession, and creates in a manner appropriate to the status and position, so he will not do anything to undermine the value of his profession. Just as a doctor must master the art of his profession, he should be of good character, worthy of the high honor of the profession. If Islam obliges his family to adhere to ethics, mastery and sincerity in his work, he is entitled to a doctor's duty. Hence, the interest in studying the ethics of the medical profession in Islamic civilization, which gave special attention to this aspect, became the basis and rules on which the Muslim doctor is based in the performance of his profession.
