المستخلص: The figure of the peasant in the novel-memories of the 1730s in France occupies a very important place in literature. "From the good husbandman of Latin literature", through the "ugly peasant" of pranks and the "grotesque peasant" of burlesques, to the "false pastoral shepherds" and the "comic peasant" of Moliere, the peasant transforms into a social climber making his place in the city. He symbolizes innocence, simplicity and intelligence, rare traits in a society governed by deceptive appearances, rivalry and deception. Our study aims to describe the image of the peasant in two novel-memories (The Paysan parvenu of Marivaux, The Paysanne parvenue of Mouhy) and to specify the role that this image plays in these novels and the relations which it maintains with the aesthetic, philosophical and social ideas of the time. It is structured around three axes: peasant and commoner gender, education and socialization, integration and experimentation.
