المستخلص: في العام 1994 وبينما كان المؤلف عضو هيئة تحرير مجلة Information Development تم تكليفه بإعداد دراسة موثقة حول جمعية المكتبات الأردنية، وقد صدرت تلك الدراسة في المجلة نفسها في العدد الأول من المجلد العاشر في العام 1994، واستعرضت تلك الدراسة تطور الجمعية منذ نشأتها والأنشطة التي تمارسها والمطبوعات الصادرة عنها منذ تأسيسها في العام 1963؛ لكن تطورات كثيرة حصلت بين الأعوام 1995 و 2019 في مجال المكتبات والمعلومات في الأردن بما في ذلك تغيير اسم الجمعية، وعنوان المجلة العلمية الصادرة عنها، ونوعية التأهيل والتدريب، وانخراط أعداد كبيرة من الخريجين في عضوية الجمعية؛ لذلك جرى القيام بالدراسة الحالية للمقارنة بين ما كان عليه وضع الجمعية في العام 1995 وما أصبح عليه في العام 2019، وللإجابة عن مجموعة من الأسئلة أهمها: هل أحرزت جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات الأردنية تقدما ملموسا يمكن قياسه خلال الفترة ما بين 1995- 2019؟، وما الإنجازات التي أحرزتها جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات الأردنية؟، وما التحديات والصعاب التي واجهتها الجمعية خلال هذه الفترة؟، وما الطموحات المستقبلية التي يسعى أعضاء جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات الأردنية إلى تحقيقها في المستقبل، وقد استندت الدراسة على البيانات التي تم جمعها وتحليلها في الدراسات والتقارير الرسمية الصادرة عن الجمعية والحوارات في مجموعات التركيز، والمقابلات الشخصية مع المكتبيين الأردنيين، وتضمنت الدراسة جزءا خاصا بالدراسات السابقة في هذا المجال على المستوى الإقليمي (الوطن العربي) والقطري، واستنتجت الدراسة أن تقدما ملموسا قد شهده قطاع المكتبات والمعلومات في الأردن بمساهمة وتأثير مباشر من جمعية المكتبات والمعلومات الأردنية، وأن إنجازات الجمعية عبر السنوات السابقة استحقت تقدير واحترام أعضائها ورضاهم، وبالرغم من ذلك فقد واجهت الجمعية وما زالت تواجه تحديات كثيرة، غير أن لديها العديد من الطموحات المستقبلية التي تهدف إلى الارتقاء بالمهنة ودعم العاملين في حقل المكتبات والمعلومات في الأردن.

In 1994, while the author of this piece was a member of the editorial board of “Information Development”, he was asked to prepare a study on the Jordan Library Association. The study was published in the same journal in the first issue of Volume 10 in 1994. That study reviewed the development of the Association since its inception and its activities and publications since its founding in 1963. Between 1995 and 2019, there were major leaps and developments in the field of library and information in Jordan, including changing the name of the Association, changing the title of its scientific journal (The Jordanian Journal of Library and Information Sciences), the quality of education and training of information workers, and the enrollment of a large number of librarianship graduates in the Association's membership. This study aimed at answering the following questions: Has the Jordan Library and Information Association made tangible and measurable progress during the period 1995-2019? What are the achievements of the JLIA and the challenges they faced during this period? And what are the challenges and difficulties that the Association faced during this period?, and what are the future aspirations that the members of the JLIA strive to achieve in the future? The status of the Association in 1995 was compared to the 2019 based on data collected and analyzed in the studies and annual reports issued by the Association, dialogues in focus groups and interviews with Jordanian librarians and information specialists. The study included a special section on literature review in this field at the regional level (Arab world) and national level. The study concluded that significant progress has been made in the library and information sector in Jordan with the direct contribution and influence of the Jordan Library and Information Association and that the achievements of the Association over the past years 25 years have earned the appreciation and respect of its members and their satisfaction. Nevertheless, the Association has faced and continues to face challenges and there are many future ambitions to raise the profile of the profession and support the Association to play a more influential role.
