مشكلة البحث عقدت العديد من المؤتمرات التربوية والجغرافية المحلية والعربية والعالمية، أوصت جميعها بضرورة الاهتمام بالمهارات التدريسية وتزويد المدرسين بقدر كبير منها وتنميتها وما أكده مؤتمر تقويم الأداء الشامل الذي عقدته وزارة التربية لسنة ١٩٩٠ ضرورة تقويم أداء المدرسين وأجمعت معظم الدراسات والبحوث السابقة بضعف أداء المعلمين والمدرسين في جميع المراحل الدراسية. أهمية البحث والحاجة إليه للتربية دور مهم في حياة المجتمعات والأمم والشعوب فهي عماد تطورها وازدهارها، وهي وسيلتها في البقاء والاستمرارية، وفي قدرتها على مواجهة التحديات والمستجدات الحاصلة في البيئة. فهي أساس النجاح للفرد والمجتمع وأساسا في حفظ كيان الأمة وبنائها الحضاري، لذلك تنفق الحكومات في الأمم بسخاء على التربية والتعليم موقنة إن في التعليم قوة ... وقوة كبيرة في ترقية الفرد والنهوض بالمجتمع إلى حياة راقية وعيشة راضية، وإن بالتربية والتعليم تحيي الشعوب من موتها وتستيقظ من سباتها، وتنتبه من غفلتها، وتقلل من سجونها. ومن هنا وجد من الضروري تقويم أداء مدرسي الجغرافية في المرحلة الإعدادية في ضوء المهارات الجغرافية. يهدف البحث إلى تقويم أداء مدرسي الجغرافية في المرحلة الإعدادية في ضوء المهارات الجغرافية، وذلك من خلال تحديد المهارات الجغرافية اللازمة لمدرسي الجغرافية في المرحلة الإعدادية والتعرف على مستوى أداء مدرسي الجغرافية في المرحلة الإعدادية في ضوء تلك المهارات، وقد اقتصر البحث على مدرسي ومدرسات مادة الجغرافية في المرحلة الإعدادية في مديرية الكرخ الأولى والثانية والثالثة، للعام الدراسي 2012م - ٢٠١٣م، بلغ مجتمع البحث للمدارس الإعدادية النهارية في تربية الكرخ الأولى والثانية والثالثة (٢٦) مدرسة، وبلغ عدد أفراد مجتمع البحث لمدرسي مادة الجغرافية في تلك المدارس المتوسطة (١١٣) مدرسا ومدرسة، وقد تبنى الباحث مقياس العكيلي (٢٠١٠) وهو مقياس يتمتع بالصدق والثبات وقد وضع لقياس المهارات الجغرافية وقد طبقة الباحث على عينة بحثة، استخدم الباحث الوسائل الإحصائية المناسبة لطبيعة البحث والتي منها معادلة تمييز الفقرة ومعادلة معامل الصعوبة وفعالية البدائل الخاطئة والاختبار التائي لعينة واحدة ومعادلة كيودر- ريتشاردسون، كانت النتيجة لكل المجالات السبعة دالة سالبة وهذا يشير إلى أن المدريسين لم يصلوا إلى المحك الموضوع لكل مجال أي أن المدريسين في كل مجال من المجالات السبعة لم يصلوا إلى المستوى المقبول تربويا وهذا يعني وجود ضعف واضح لدى المدريسين في أي مجال من مجالات مهارات الخرائط الجغرافية في ضوء النتيجة التي توصل إليها هذا البحث يمكن استنتاج ما يأتي:- قلة استعمال المدرسين للخرائط ومهاراتها وما لها من أثار سلبية على الطلبة ضعف المدرسين في امتلاك مهارات الخرائط الجغرافية نتيجة ضعف التدريب عليها في الكليات التي درسوا فيها وعدم معرفتهم بالطرائق التدريسية الحديثة والوسائل التعليمية. وقد أوصى الباحث بعدد من التوصيات ضرورة اهتمام مدرسي الجغرافية بالخرائط ومهاراتها والتركيز على الجانب العملي .. وتخصيص حصة للخرائط في الأسبوع وتدريس الطلبة على مهاراتها اكتساب المهارة يحتاج إلى الممارسة والتطبيق العملي لها وهذا يتطلب من مدرسي الجغرافية استعمال طرائق وأساليب تدريسية يكون محورها الطالب بغية ضمان اكتساب هذه المهارات.
