المستخلص: The study aims to analyze the main conditions that contributed to the success of the Malaysian development model and its limits. Thus, due to the liberal legacy of British colonialism, good economic governance and excellent political leadership have enabled the country to emerge from the rentier economy and to establish a productive, diversified and exporting economy. Nevertheless, Malaysia’s inclusion in globalization exposes it to global and regional economic and financial crises. In addition, the increased presence of the State in the area of economic governance causes dysfunctions that contribute to the maintenance of a rentier state despite the end of the rentier economy.

L’étude analyse les principales conditions ayant contribué à la réussite du modèle de développement malaisien et ses limites. Ainsi, l’héritage libéral de la colonisation britannique, l’organisation administrative, le sentiment d’appartenir à une nation unie, la bonne gouvernance dans le domaine économique et l’excellence du leadership politique et administratif ont permis au pays de sortir de l’économie rentière et mettre en place une économie productive, diversifiée et exportatrice ayant un poids régional et mondial reconnu. Néanmoins, la très forte insertion de la Malaisie dans la mondialisation l’expose aux crises économiques et financières mondiale et régionale. Par ailleurs, la présence accrue de l’État dans le domaine économique et de gouvernance engendre des dysfonctionnements qui contribuent au maintien d’un État rentier malgré la fin de l’économie rentière.
