المستخلص: The architecture of churches in Egypt, built throughout the ages and during the Islamic era, has been characterized by the use of many architectural units and elements that contributed to the formation of the overall planning of the church, whether they are external architectural elements or interior architectural elements. These elements were used in the formation of the entrance unit, which is considered the way to enter any building. The entrance unit is the first most important part of a building that one notices first as it has various architectural and decorative elements.
In the architecture of the entrances of the churches in Cairo, many architectural elements were used which vary in terms of forms and uses, such as the patio, stairs leading to the entrance and the shed, pillars, supports, ribbed vault, windows, Muqarnas, stalactites, ceilings, doors, domes, cellars, balconies, gabels, etc.
These elements, which contributed to the formation of the entrance unit in churches of Cairo during the Islamic era, are the research topic. The research will shed light on these elements applying samples of the entrances of the churches of Cairo.
Research motives:
The motive of this research is to shed light on the architectural units and elements used in the architecture of the entrances of Cairo churches of different forms, types and uses, and to root these elements in application of models of the entrances of the churches in Cairo.
The motive of this research is also to answer a number of questions about the architectural units and elements of the building of the entrances of churches with different planning, and the communities in which religious rituals are practiced, whether they are Orthodox, Catholic, Evangelical, Armenian, Roman or other.

امتازت عمارة الكنائس في مصر على مر العصور وخلال العصر الإسلامي باستخدام العديد من الوحدات والعناصر المعمارية التي ساهمت في تكوين التخطيط العام للكنيسة، سواء عناصر معمارية خارجية أو عناصر داخلية وهذه العناصر قد استخدمت في تكوين وحدة المدخل الذي يعد السبيل لدخول أي مبني، وهو أول ما تقع عليه العين بما يحويه من عناصر معمارية وزخرفية مختلفة.
فقد استخدم في عمارة مداخل الكنائس بالقاهرة العديد من العناصر المعمارية المتنوعة من حيث الأشكال والاستخدامات ومن هذه العناصر الفناء والسلالم المؤدية للمدخل والسقيفة والأعمدة والدعامات والعقود والنوافذ والمقرنصات والأسقف والأبواب والقباب والأقبية والشرافات والكوابيل، وغير ذلك.
وقد ساهمت هذه العناصر في تكوين وحدة المدخل بكنائس القاهرة خلال العصر الإسلامي موضوع البحث، وسوف يلقي البحث الضوء على هذه العناصر تطبيقا على نماذج من مداخل كنائس القاهرة.
دوافع البحث:
الدافع من هذا البحث هو إلقاء الضوء على الوحدات والعناصر المعمارية المستخدمة في عمارة مداخل كنائس القاهرة باختلاف أشكالها وأنواعها واستخداماتها، وتأصيل هذه العناصر تطبيقا على نماذج من مداخل الكنائس بالقاهرة.
ومن دوافع هذا البحث أيضا الإجابة على عدد من التساؤلات عن الوحدات والعناصر المعمارية في عمارة مداخل الكنائس باختلاف تخطيطها، والطوائف التي تمارس فيها الطقوس الدينية سواء كانوا أرثوذكسيين أو كاثوليك أو إنجيليين أو من الأرمن أو الروم أو غير ذلك.
