إن التطورات الحاصلة في ميدان تكنولوجيا المعلومات قد أثرت بشكل كبير على مهام ووظائف المكتبي بمختلف النواحي. وما ظهور أدوار جديدة مثل أخصائي المعلومات، مستشار المعلومات، سبراني وغيرها إلا نتيجة التفاعل الإيجابي للمكتبيين مع التحول الهائل الذي يشهده العالم الإلكتروني إلى عالم افتراضي، في ظل التأثير الملحوظ لشبكة الإنترنت على أشكال وخدمات المكتبات. بيد أن تطور أو تغير موقع المكتبي يتطلب أداء أفضل وخدمات أجود لأجل الغاية الرئيسة، وهى تلبية وإرضاء حاجيات المستفيدين. كما أن الإحاطة بكيفية الإبحار وإجراء عمليات البحث بصورة دقيقة عبر الشبكة العنكبوتية العالمية (www) من أهم النقاط التي تؤثر في تطوير وظائف المكتبين، بالإضافة إلى تعلم تقنيات تصميم مواقع الواب للمكتبات، واتخاذها بوابة لتفعيل الاتصال مع المستفيدين بطرق أحدث وأسرع، وذلك في عملية تفاعلية ديناميكية تنميها التغذية الراجعة والتقييم المستمر من طرف المترددين على مواقع المكتبات والمهتمين بخدماتها.
The development generated in the field of information technology has had a considerable impact on the librarian‘s professional task on different sides. The appearance of new professions such as information specialist, information adviser, cybrarian, etc... are the result of the positive interaction between librarians and the radical change facing the electronic and virtual world under the influence of the Internet on the libraries ‘ typology and services. The progress and change of the librarian‘s position requires a good mastery of the most important instruments and technological devices that contribute to the achievement of a better work and efficient services for a key purpose aiming at satisfying the users’ needs. To know how to navigate and to search information efficiently and accurately via the World Wide Web (www) has become an important factor that improves the librarian’s profession, in addition to handling the techniques of shaping libraries websites. All this can be used as a gate for stimulating communication with users through modem and fast means within an interactive and dynamic operation. this process can be fed by feed-back and continuous evaluation concerning the users of the libraries' sites and all those who are interested in their services and their development.
