نبذة إن طموح السلم الأفريقي المناهض للتبعية والمتطلع إلى الانعتاق من العلاقات الإلحاقية والاتكالية، مرتبط بنهضة الشعوب الأفريقية وتحررها الفكري واعتمادها على ذاتها. وهو طموح مساير للقناعات الراسخة بين أوساط المفكرين والسياسيين الأفارقة بإدانة الحلول المستوردة، وأن الحركية الفكرية التي تعمل مبدأ "الحلول الأفريقية للمشكلات الأفريقية" هي وحدها الكفيلة بالوصول إلى حل دائم لمشكلات أفريقيا. فالمأمول في الاتحاد الأفريقي كمنظمة تمثل الشعوب الأفريقية، أن يتبنى هذه الحلول الإفريقية وتنزيلها تأكيدا لمضامين المنظور البنيوي في العلاقات الدولية، والذي يركز على أهمية الثقافة والأفكار المشتركة والهوية الجماعية والخبرات التاريخية للدفع بالدول والفاعلين إلى مواصلة بناء تعاون متين وتكامل قوي من ناحية، وبغرض التغلب على التحديات التي تواجهها القارة وتملك زمام أمرها من ناحية أخرى .. وهو المبدأ الذي تبنته منظمة الاتحاد الأفريقي عبر إنشائها لهيكل السلم والآمن الأفريقي الذي يشكل تجسيدا مؤسسيا للبنيات والغايات والمبادئ والقرارات الكفيلة بالوقاية من النزاعات وإدارتها ثم حلها؛ وكذا إعمار المناطق المتأثرة بالنزاعات. ومن السمات البارزة لهذا التوجه الجديد، السعي نحو آليات التسوية التفاوضية وتأكيد أهمية العملية السياسية في التفاوض. كذلك تبين أن هذا السعي المحموم نحو تبني الحلول الأفريقية الخالصة، تشوبه بعض المعيقات التي تقيد القارة ككل مثل شح الموارد والإمكانات اللازمة لأجل تنزيل الحلول الأفريقية، لكن أكبر هذه المعيقات يظل كامنا في طبيعة السياسات المتبناة في القارة، إضافة إلى طبيعة النظام السياسي العالمي، والعجز الذي يعتري بعض القيادات السياسية الأفريقية.
