المستخلص: ويعرض الموضوع بداية للنبت الذي بذره ابن سبأ واغتر به بعض الناس فانتقل بالناس بموضوع الإمامة من الفروع إلى كونها من الأصول والمنصوص عليها بالتعيين والتي لا ينبغي للوحي أن يغفلها وكانت النتيجة فادحة إذ شطرت هذه القضية الأمة الإسلامية نصفين- سنة وشيعة-ولكل أدلته ويظهر في هذا البحث أهمية الإسناد فلولاه لقال من شاء ما شاء وتاه الناس وسط زحام النصوص هنا وهناك ولكن الذي ثبت الحقيقة على قدمين هو موضوع الإسناد فأظهر قوة الدليل عند أهل السنة فجزى الله عنا علماء أهل السنة خير الجزاء بما قدموه لنا من خدمة لسنة رسول الله ﷺ، ثم تناول البحث بعد ذلك الإمامة في القرآن والسنة وأهميتها السياسية ثم رؤية أهل السنة للإمامة من خلال ممارسة النبي ﷺ والخلفاء الراشدين لها ثم رؤية الشيعة للإمامة وأدلتهم عليها والرد عليهم ثم مبحث عن فكرة التقريب بين السنة والشيعة وختمت البحث بمبحث ختامي عن فكرة الإمام الاعتباري باعتبار أن الإسلام لم يأتي بشكل معين للإمامة وإن نص على وجوبها من خلال فهم النصوص التي تدل على ذلك.

This research traces the first seeds sown by Ibn Saba who had deceived some people by turning their attention towards Imamate from being a peripheral matter into being a basic one provided through appointment and which should not be disregarded by the divine revelation. The consequence of such issue was so dire to the extent that the Muslim nation underwent schism: Sunnah and Shia. Each division had its reasons, so that this research focuses light on the importance of transmission whose absence would allow anyone to say whatever comes to his mind then people would get lost amid the jam of texts here or there. However, transmission has provided a solid ground for the truth through taking cognizance of evidence introduced by the people of Sunnah. May Allah reward the people of Sunnah well in turn for what they had done for the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. After that the research has studied the issue of Imamate in the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah and drew attention to its political importance then the viewpoints of the Sunnah concerning the Imamate with regard to the deeds of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and those of the rightly guided Caliphs. Next, the research exposes the viewpoints of the Shia regarding the Imamate and their clues together with the due responses. Then, there is a chapter dedicated to cover the compromising ideas between the Sunnah and Shia. Finally, the research concludes with the idea of a nominal Imam since Islam has not provided an identifiable form of the Imamate although it has referred to its obligation within referential texts.
