المستخلص: This study investigates the impact of the recent International Financial Crisis on the economy and prospects of Dubai; U.A.E. Dubai is a useful case study for an open Globalized economy. Lessons learned there and policy recommendations are of great relevance to other Middle-East and emerging economies, and Egypt in particular. Dubai was one successful example of an open economy which used its geographical location to leverage its traditional role as a trading post. Dubai developed its tourist and service industries and opened an international financial centre which operated under its own laws and regulations outside the national regulatory framework. The real estate and tourist sector were also as pivots of development. The international financial crsis affected Dubai harder than other neighboring countries. Part of this impact was due to increased exposure to outside factors. However, the paper argues that the crisis 1 exposed inherent weaknesses in the development experience which made Dubai more susceptible to international shocks \
