The objective of this in vitro study was to compare total canal diameter, transportation ( mesial and distal )of canal walls and the incidence of zipping and elbow formation after endosonic instrumentation technique using stainless steel (SS) and nicklel – titanium (Ni-iT ). Materials and Methods. Thirty simulated curved canals of 30 degrees in clear resin blocks were divided into two groups of 15canals each. In group 1 the canals were instrumented with SS K- file and group 2 the canals were instrumented with Ni-iT K- file. A statistical analysis ( t –test) was used to indicate any significant difference between instruments. The result and discussion showed that Ni-iT K- file exhibited less canal diameter compared with SSK- file but the difference was significant (p<0.05) at apical third. At specific level along the canal length, there were significant differences (p<0.05) in the mesial &distal transportation of canal walls(apical and middle thirds). SSK-file shows mesial transportation of canal walls at the apical level and the distal transportation at the middle & coronal level. While Ni-iT file showed less transportation than SSk file, remain more center in the canal and remove resin material more evenly from mesial and distal aspect of the curvature. SSK- file showed more incidence of zipping and elbow than Ni-iT k-file.
