|b This paper explores the use of Ancient Greek diminutives in the comedies of Aristophanes. Diminutives are denominatives formed from the stems of substantives by various suffixes such as –ηνλ, -ίδηνλ, -αξηνλ, - πδξηνλ, -πιιηνλ, -ηζθνο, -ηζθε, -ηζθηνλ, - αθλε, -ηδνο, -ηδεπο, -ηρνο, and – ηρλε. Aristophanes used diminutives for both affection and contempt. Aristophanes employed diminutives to express his political views in many plays; for sarcasm and mockery of people or judges or courts or wealth.
