المستخلص: This research compares the similarities and dissimilarities between Greek and Latin. It concentrates on morphology of both the aorist and the prefect tenses in the two afore- mentioned languages which belong to the Indo-European family. The study highlights the significance of the etymological sources in the Proto Indo-European languages, whose structures and formations have been restored by modern linguists. In Italic, as in Germanic and Celtic branches, the aorist was lost and its stem survived as a component of the Latin perfect tense which formed a combination of Proto Indo-European aorist and stative, this combination comprises form and function. The importance of the research lies in that it will explore some features of the mother tongue which remain alive in both Greek and Latin; some features in each language witnessed changes in form and influence. The data of our study are based on texts which are extensive in these phenomena, such as the poem of Hesiod Works and Days. This poem is considered one of the older literary works written in Greek. In addition, our study will analyze linguistically the play of Plautus The Rope, written in old Latin by Plautus.
